What an extraordinary afternoon yesterday! In a packed auditorium at Film Theatre Springhaver in Utrecht, my documentary Stones that Spreak was screened, followed by the unveiling of a beautiful mural by Jos Peeters — featuring a quote by Harry van Putten, which also appears in the film.
Scattered throughout the city are tiles bearing Harry’s sayings. He cast his quotes in cement in the size of paving stones and secretly swapped them at night with official municipal tiles — at night, because he wished to remain anonymous. Many friends and acquaintances suddenly discovered a tile with text along their usual daily route, unaware of its origin. Several of his tiles are also featured in the documentary.
